A First Generation Rancher

Davey Baron got his start out in the Elk River Valley back in 2015. Since then, he’s been chasing what he cares about most: horses, cattle, and the land that keeps ‘em all alive. Clark, Colorado, will grab ahold of you quick, and it sure grabbed him.

Once he put down roots in this valley, there was no turning back. He wanted to make this place richer, stronger, and more alive than ever.

Our cattle roam these high-mountain grasses, eating what they were meant to, growing strong and full of flavor. (Like we always say: you are what you eat!) With adaptive grazing and hands-on management, we work with the land, not against it, to keep it healthy, productive, and beautiful for the years to come.

A Ranch with a History

It’s no coincidence we’re called Elk River Livestock. The Elk River is what gives this ranch its water, its growth, and its life during our lush summer months. The ranch was first purchased back in the ’90s and has long been a staple of Clark. With Steve Stranahan leading the charge on conservation in the valley, things started to snowball. The Stranahan family’s commitment to keeping this land intact has been a driving force here for generations.

Today, the ranch sits on 3,000+ acres of leased land, most of it under conservation. Those efforts help keep the valley the way it should be, for years to come. It’s a careful balance between livestock, wildlife, and the natural landscape that makes this place truly unique.

When you purchase beef from Elk River Livestock you're buying more than a steak. You are investing in land stewardship and future generations of ranching.
